Start Trek: Picard

PROCESS

One of the most exciting projects I’ve been working on with Singleframe. At that time being able to work on the project for the series that was part of my childhood, being able to work on the spaceship and animate the chase sequence was like a dream come true for me.

I was beyond happy to start with the ship modeling, we didn’t have any references provided, so I googled some promo images and building kits models as well as game references and was able to have a nice selection of images to work with.

I modeled it in Blender as I think it has better modeling tools than C4D and a nicer viewport preview. Than I exported it to C4D and set up Redshift materials.

When the ship was ready, I was able to jump to the main animation and help the team with some destruction sequences, which was a pretty fun thing to do. It was done with a combination of mograph techniques as well as traditional keyframe animation for major ship parts.

When the main sequence was finished we started to adapt it for various screens. Here is one of the deep screens Ive been able to work on. In this particular case I was also able to design the frame.

During this campaign, we had a lot of cool stuff to do, and this installation was one of them.
Besides helping with the design and preview of the composition, I created the chase sequence for 3 screens, which was super fun to work on.

One of my many roles during this project was also support for the 2D team. So anything that required 3D graphics was my responsibility. I’ve designed a pretty cool teleportation pod and made tons of different variations of the shipwrecked for various banners and billboards, that the 2D team turned into magic.
Here is also one animation that I made, that was supposed to be a facade projection, but didn’t make it to the final production.

Thanks for watching!
