Prime Video: Rings of Power

PROCESS

Being a fan of LOTR and the fantasy genre in general, I was beyond excited to start working on this project.

The challenge was to create a design that would fit the Rings of Power style, but wouldn’t copy LOTR themes.
Armed with a bunch of Rings of Power posters in one hand and the Silmarillion in another, I started working on the design.

The main idea was to make each letter represent a different race/faction in the Rings of Power universe. To make this happen, I took inspiration from ancient bas-reliefs, sculptures, and wood carving.

At first, I wanted to make extremely detailed versions that would represent the whole kingdom in one letter, but unfortunately due to the scale and length of the animation, it turned out to be too dense and busy looking.

So I went for a simplified, slightly more stylized approach. I took elements, mainly from the posters provided, that in my mind, represented each faction and supported them with materials to create a unique feeling for each letter. The goal was to make them consistent and in the same style, so there were quite a few variations in the process, but we ended up with the one that looked best.
