Chase Bliss MOOD MKII
PROCESS
“Twist any sound into a sprawling texture that you can freeze, loop and scatter across the stereo field, for instant gratification and endless exploration.”
This was a pure passion project for me, as soon as I saw the first demos of the product, I knew that I wanted to make an animation for it.
The main idea was to play around its name and sonic possibilities. Since this pedal is mostly used for ambient soundscapes, I wanted to make an animation that would represent the whole essence of it, instead of focusing on separate functions, creating an atmosphere of mystery and intrigue.
The whole project was a joy to work on, so I was able to avoid some preproduction steps that I usually do when working on commercial projects. Mainly, I haven’t started with a storyboard for it, instead, I jumped to Pinterest for some inspiration and started building the intro shot, first with placeholder objects, then slowly changing them to achieve the mood I was looking for.
This was the first image that kind of represented what I wanted to achieve.
When I had the concept of the intro shot, I got back to Pinterest and created a reference board for the other shots I had in mind
After I managed to finish styleframes for all the shots, I went to animation. Since the whole idea was to create an ambient mood, I wanted to support it with the animation as well, so all the camera movements are very gentle. The rough cuts between the scenes and transitioning shots were aimed to support the functionality of the pedal ”One half samples and loops brief moments, the other is a collection of real-time spatial effects.”
Here are some stills from the projects.
