PROCESS

I was fortunate enough to work on this project from start to finish together with the amazing team at Versus. After the basic script was approved, I started working on 3D storyboards. This stage was definitely the most fun. Being a WoW fan, it was exciting for me to create something related to the game world. We explored a lot of different concepts, trying different looks and environments. Below you can see the first round of storyboards as well as some alternative frames.

After the storyboards were approved, I moved to the lookdev phase. The main challenge was to combine the new WoW DLC theme with the MTN Dew refreshment look. We went for the desert environment to match the cinematic trailer and make the transitions as smooth as possible, adding refreshment elements with ice and water droplets, showcasing the cooling effect. Below you can see some look dev wips and the approved versions.

After the lookdev phase, we moved to the animation. While it was pretty straightforward, I still wanted to make it fun and playful. Below you can see the animatic, which ended up being pretty close to the final animation.
In the final version, I’ve added some secondary elements such as wind and sand simulations, water droplets and fake water sims inside the bottles, as well as particles exposition.
When I was done with 3D, the team did an amazing job in compositing.

A few additional bottle renders and look dev for the frosting.
